Exploring Gender Norms through Art

Gender Norms

Table of contents

Banyule Youth Services are asking for written and visual arts submissions from young people ages 12-25 that explore their experiences of gender norms.

Chosen submissions will be used in a new publication being created, as part of a recommendation made by young people at the 2018 Banyule Youth Summit.

Submissions could be creative fiction and non-fiction writing including letters to self, short stories or abstract stories, poems, visual artwork, drawings, paintings, photography, cartoons & more that explore the person’s experience and understanding of Gender Norms.

We ask those submitting pieces to consider the following questions in their work for inspiration:

  • What are gender norms?
  • How have gender norms affected you in your life?
  • Do gender norms make things harder or easier for people?
  • How can we change gender norms in society positively?
  • How is your generation effected by gender norms?

We suggest thinking about topics such as wellbeing, self-esteem, body image, relationships, friendships & social media for more inspiration.

Submissions are now open until November 15th 2018.
