Volunteer opportunities for young people!

like books? like event planning? like volunteering?
Lalor Library is kicking off the Proteens program for 2013. We're looking for young people to volunteer at the library, plan youth events and solve mysteries. You'll get invaluable experience with event planning and promoting, running your own meetings, team building and backstage at the library - plus a referee on your resume. We're looking for creative and motivated young folks with awesome ideas. If this sounds like you, give us a shout at emurray@yprl.vic.gov.au

Vinnies CEO Sleep Out

The Vinnies CEO Sleep out has run every year since 2006. It is a time when Chief Executive Officers come together to sleep rough for a night to raise funds and awareness of the issue of homelessness in the community.

The aim of the Vinnies CEO Sleepout is not only to raise funds, but raise awareness of homelessness. Vinnies goal is not just to service the homeless, but to bring about an end to homelessness. The discomfort of sleeping on the streets is a fragment of the larger reality Vinnies hope to impart upon influential leaders of the community. With their help, and yours, we can fight the issue of homelessness together.

This year, Simon McMillan, the CEO of Banyule City Council will be sleeping out! If you want to know more about the Sleep Out, or would like to make a donation to the cause.. check out http://www.ceosleepout.org.au

FReeZA Push Start calling for entries!

The Push are calling for entries to their FReeZA Push Start program!
FReeZA Push Start is an annual Victorian Battle of the Bands competition managed by The Push.
The program incorporates 87 youth-music FReeZA committees across Victoria, allowing young bands living in both regional and metropolitan areas to have an opportunity to compete.
Originally titled, "Push Start Battle-Comp" and established in 1995, the competition showcases young and emerging Victorian performers aged 15-21 from around Victoria.

FReeZA Push Start Heats are run across Victoria from January to August each year. The winner of each heat goes on to compete in one of the nine FReeZA Push Start Regional Finals, which run from October to December. The winners go on to compete at the FReeZA Push Start Grand Final at The Push's annual all ages music festival Push Over held on the Sunday of the Labour Day Long Weekend in March.
FReeZA Push Start Grand Final Winners receive a major prize including things like recording, mastering and publicity.
Prizes packs are also awarded to all FReeZA Push Start Grand Finalists.
One band is also awarded the APRA Songwriter's Award.
