We Need Your Input

Jets is planning to launch an exciting new program that will allow young people aged 15-24 to have free access to Jets. We're thinking free rehearsals (including free access to drumkits and amps), free access to computers, cameras and other equipment, as well as free training opportunities.

This will be a great opportunity to have access to heaps of professional equipment and expertise! To make sure the program is relevant and easy to access we need to know what would work best for YOU. So please let us know what you think.

Freestyle Street Art Program
Freestyle is a program that is for 12-25 year olds that are involved in graffiti or have an interest in it. These workshops are designed to engage young people using this art form in a legal and positive way. At each session the young people are shown and taught different techniques to improve their skills. All workshops are run with the end goal of designing and working on a legal mural within the Banyule Area.

Banyule 100 is a project that promotes all that is good about young people in Banyule. We're on the look out for any young people with a story to tell. Do you know someone who is an entrepeneur, achieving in the arts, has a social justice conscience or has overcome adversity? If you do, we want to hear about them.   We're also looking to promote adults who are making a difference in the lives of young people. Maybe you know a teacher has done something extra or a community member is supportive of local young people.

I Fell Off My Bike is award-winning Melbourne artist Isobel Knowles' animated series of the oh-so-feared bicycle stack.

Adapted from real stories, each short vignette captures the freedom of cycling eclipsed by momentary misjudgement. The impact is visceral, and you'll simultaneously wince and laugh at these unfortunate riders.

VINYL - Visionary Images Next Youth Leaders

VINYL participants and artists are working on MOVING MARK, a project that will culminate in poster and print media art exhibited in public transport environments, for example in trains stations and on trams. Through working on this project the participants have the opportunity to gain skills including: team work, idea development, graphic design, photography, drawing, illustration, and software such as Photoshop and Illustrator.

Well you don't have to imagine, because Skills Victoria are running a competition right now where you could win tickets to a great music festival and see what it'd be like to be an apprentice in the music industry. To give you a taste of life as an apprentice, Skills Victoria are giving away:

Voiceworks are looking for fiction, poetry, nonfiction and visual art

Voiceworks is seeking submissions for its next issue, #84 PULP. Fiction, poetry, nonfiction, visual art - they want it all. Even if your submission is unsuccessful, they'll provide you with detailed feedback to help you improve your writing. Submissions close Sunday January 16.

In 2011 they're especially keen to build their ranks of nonfiction writers, and are working up a lengthy list of potential topics for PULP. If you're interested in that list, or writing nonfiction in general, please get in touch with Jojo at editor@expressmedia.org.au 

The Under Age - calling all young journos

Express Media is proud to announce a new and exciting project in partnership with The Age newspaper.
The Under Age is a fortnightly online newspaper written entirely by Victorian high school journalists. Each fortnight the group of up to 12 young people will workshop their story ideas with each other and also with selected industry professionals. The newspaper will include articles on news, sport, politics, art and culture.

Trop Fest Junior

Hello budding filmmakers!  Entry to Trop Jr 2011 is now open. If you are 15 years old or younger and love films, this is for you!

Just like big Tropfest, Trop Jr is a short filmmaking competition, but for young filmmakers. Not only do they encourage kids and teens to enter, they also encourage schools, clubs and community groups to get behind a camera and share your stories.

Free Youth Writing Workshop - Writing Melbourne

There is only one more workshop left this year in the Express Media workshop series at Signal in Melbourne, so book now to avoid missing out. On Wednesday November 10 from 5pm, scribe-about-town Chris Flynn will present Writing Melbourne looking at how to use the inspiration of the city to create new writing. The workshops are free but bookings are required by emailing artisticdirector@expressmedia.org.au

The Cup Project - showcasing emerging young artists

The cup project is a youth, not-for-profit, initiative positively profiling young emerging Australian Artists on takeaway coffee cups. It seeks to connect lovers of art, coffee and cafes.   Young people's creative work and profile information will feature on 100, 000 takeaway cups that will be distributed via selected Melbourne CBD cafes in November 2010.  

Do you want music industry experience?

Get hands on experience running local gigs (indie/hardcore/metal/punk/rock), festivals and underage dance events.
Applicants must be aged between 15-20 years old and be available for Tuesday afternoon meetings at Macleod YMCA.

Australian Poetry Slam

The search is on for Victoria's best spoken word poet, with heats being held all over Victoria. Entry is free. Heats are being held all over Victoria with the final at the State Library on November 19.
Speak, scream, howl, whisper or sing your original poem at the Australian Poetry Slam, an electric live event where the audience is the judge. Even if you don't have a poem to perform you can come along and help cheer the poets to victory.

Jump - Mentoring for young Artists


JUMP is Australia's largest national mentoring program for young and emerging artists.
JUMP helps young artists anywhere in Australia to work with industry leaders across a wide range of artforms.
Mentorship places lasting up to 10 months each are available for artists aged between 18-30 who are also in the first five years of their career.
The JUMP program will fund a creative project to be achieved through a one-on-one relationship with a chosen mentor. It also provides:

The Push is proud to announce Melbourne's annual music industry conference Face The Music returns to the Arts Centre for its third year, Friday 19 - Saturday 20 November, 2010.

Be part of the Pop Up Project for the Melbourne Festival

The Pop-Up Project is a playful new event set to infiltrate the city on Saturday 16 October. Part flash mob, part choreographed crowd movement in public spaces, part live-art experience, this is a unique opportunity to be part of the Melbourne Festival program and have a very special, highly personal Festival experience.  And we want you!
